Mom Inventor makes Time Outs Easier
Kelly Korbonski, a stay at home mom, has become apart of a quickly
growing field: A Momprenuer. In September 2005, Korbonski started
a company called Atea Kids. She launched the company with a product
called Toddler Timeout, a discipline mat she designed to help ease
the implementation of a time out for parents and caregivers.
Korbonski, said she came up with the idea after watching her best
friend struggle with disciplining her child using the time out method.
"I noticed my friend had several frustrations with implementing
time outs. she said. These frustrations ranged from not knowing
where to give the time out, the endless question of is my time out
over and her feelings of lack of consistency.
I wanted the design of the mat to be portable and easy to carry Korbonski
said. The time out method is effective when it's consistent. The
Toddler Timeout can be used in the home or outside. It also provides
a tool for other caregivers and stays consistent with the parent's
style of discipline. Plus, it's safer than a chair or stairs.
The Toddler Timeout design
is different than other time out products
in the market because it zips into a carry tote which can hold children's
items such as a soft toy. It also comes with a digital timer.

Amy Bergin, wife, mother and President of The Couponizer Company, said The
stairs have always been my time out spot since they are away from the
fun parts of the house. However, the mat is useful when I need to keep
an eye on my 2 year old and he is the only child home with me. I can
take it upstairs and if we need it, I can deliver a timeout where I
am working in the house.
Bergin also said The timer is the BEST! I
was sliding on the actual time in time out and having a tool to
measure time is great! 2 minutes is a long time and actually sitting
it out drives home the point of time out!
Michal Palatnik, mother of three year old twins and 7 year
old daughter, said Time outs were always difficult because I could
not consistently give them when we were away from home. Now
that I have the timeout mat I know I have a spot to put them on and
I won't have to guess on the time either. I only
wish I had this when my 7 year old was younger!
Time Out is the most common discipline method today. The Toddler
Timeout Mat provides a consistent and portable discipline method
for parents and caregivers. Its unique design can also carry
small items such as a stuffed animal or snack cup. The Toddler Timeout
is the only discipline mat that comes with a timer. A necessity
for the timeout method.
Toddler Timeout is machine washable.

Expanding Atea Kids
Korbonski has now expanded her company by designing a new product called
Drop Stop, released in March 2006. The Drop Stop is a solution for
dropped or thrown baby bottles, sippy cups, soft toys and more. Its
design is an elastic, adjustable loop that secures the child's item
to a stroller, highchair, shopping cart or airplane seat.
I really enjoy designing and solving common
parenting issues. Korbonski
said. I am currently working on two more products to be released
Fall 2006.
"I feel excited," said Korbonski about the signs of
success. "
Almost
everyone's reaction when they see the product is, 'Why
didn't I think of that?'
Does your child throw sippy cups in restaurants? Has your
child thrown a favorite toy from the carseat? Now
you can keep these things off the ground. Drop Stop's unique design allows parents
to secure items ranging in size from a utensil, to a sippy cup. In addition, you
can secure 2 items at the same time. Drop Stop is a must have while traveling.
