You CAN turn your passion into profit!
Marilyn
Peraza is like any woman. She enjoys her time spent with family
and friends. She also enjoys a unique passion and that is "LAMPWORKING".
Lampworking is the art of creating decorative glass beads, vessels
or other glass objects by winding thin rods of colored molten glass
onto stainless steel mandrels in a torch.
"One of the processes the glass goes through after we have made our bead
is to ensure that it is stress free and will last for a long time. This
is called annealing." Marilyn adds, "Annealing is done in a
kiln where the glass is able to slowly come down to room temperature thereby
working out the stress from the extreme heat applied in the torch."
"When I started making beads, it was mostly for myself. I
made jewelry and wanted to
have unique beads for my designs. Melting glass quickly became
an addiction
and my passion. People started asking for my beads, so I started
to sell them to other jewelry designers and in local bead stores. I
currently sell my glass beads and designer jewelry on my website,
at bead shows and fine art shows, The Annealer Magazine's Auction
Boutique, ebay, and at bead shops in Florida."
What makes Marilyn's story even more interesting is that she turned
her passion to profit. She found that many lampwork bead artists
do not have the luxury of being able to take classes or attend a
lot of seminars and so there was a need for getting information that
they could access when they were able.
That's how The Annealer Magazine came about. It's
a magazine dedicated to the lampwork bead artist and lampwork jewelry
designer.
"In 2005 I started doing research on publishing a magazine. Shortly
after, I created the companion website and started up The Auction
Boutique which went live in March 2006, at which time the magazine
also started to become a reality. In December 2006, after just
over a year, our first publication of The Annealer Magazine was
released! It has been a huge success and I am now working on
the second issue. I continue to make beads on a regular basis,
using the beads for my jewelry designs and selling the beads to other
jewelry designers and collectors."
Marilyn's story could be your story. Many of us spend our
careers working in fields for which we have no passion. We
have dreams, but we don't act. Marilyn had a passion. She fused
that passion with a need, she acted and she's now a successful magazine
publisher. Have you turned your passion to profit? What
are you waiting for?
Go for it!
