Younger Skin in Less than 90 Minutes?

Try Demabrasion !

dermabrasionIf you like things done quickly, you’ll love Dermabrasion. This non-surgical procedure usually takes less than 90 minutes!

Dermabrasion is a procedure that removed the top skin layer to allow a newer layer of skin to surface. Your cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon will literally scrape away the outermost layer of skin with a rough wire brush, or a burr containing diamond attached to a motorized handle particle (it has been said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend). The scraping continues until the surgeon reaches the safest level that will make the scar or wrinkle less visible.

Even though the results of a dermabrasion procedure are quite pleasing, getting there is an entirely different story. Right after the procedure, your skin will be quite red and swollen, and eating and talking may be difficult. There’s no two ways to say this: you’ll be in pain. In fact, you'll probably feel some tingling, burning, or even aching. If the pain is unbearable, your doctor may prescribe medication. Like most other unpleasant post-procedure symptoms, the tingling, burning, aching and pain will subside with time.

If you were a fan of the hilarious series: ‘Sex in the City’, you might remember the episode where ‘Samantha’ got a dermabrasion treatment a few days before a major social event and showed up with a large hat in an attempt to hide a very-red-and-scared face. It’s important to take that into consideration when choosing a date for your procedure.

One thing you might want to keep in mind when opting for dermabrasion is the scabbing. If you remember your childhood scrapes, you'll know what to expect from this type of surgery. A scab or crust will form over the treated area as it begins to heal. With time, the scab will fall off as a new layer of tight skin forms underneath. Your face may itch as new skin starts to grow, and your doctor may recommend an ointment to make you more comfortable.
Here’s a little insider’s scoop: If the post-treatment ointment prescribed by your doctor is applied immediately after the dermabrasion treatment, little or no scab will form!

You can expect to be back at work in about two weeks. Your surgeon will probably advise you to avoid any activity that could cause a bump to your face for at least two weeks. All sports involving a ball should be avoided for four to six weeks. It goes without saying that boxing and stunt work should also be avoided. If you swim, stick to indoor pools to avoid sun and wind, and keep your face out of chlorinated water for at least four weeks.

Dermabrasion might be a great way to gain a fresher look, but it will do a number on your social life. You’ll need to wait at least three to four weeks before you can drink alcohol without experiencing a flush of redness. Perrier or San Pelligrino might have to be your beverages of choice during your recovery time…if you still intend on keeping your social life active.

Once you undergo a Dermabrasion treatment it’s imperative that you start religiously protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun with a good SPF protection. You should never leave home without sunscreen!
