NETWORKING TACTICS, as related to business, are really marketing-focused activities where you meet, mingle and talk with other people about ways you can help each other grow your business; expand your brand; get your name out there; find more prospects, leads, clients, customers, affiliates and vendors; all in the name of making more money, growing your business and helping each other do all the above from here to eternity!

 

Real Quick, What Exactly Is ... "Networking?"

The term "Networking," according to Encarta®'s World English Dictionary, is defined as follows:

"The practice of gathering of contacts: the process or practice of building up or maintaining informal relationships, especially with people whose friendship could bring advantages such as job or business opportunities ... "
 

Now, while this might satisfy the casual inquiry on the definition of this term, we need to look deeper into the meaning of "networking." And, in doing so, we will see that "networking" is more than just a word or a simple activity defined by some dictionary ...

Here's A Better Definition For "Networking?"

“Networking,” as it relates to business, and according to Bart Smith, TheMarketingMan.com, author of My Networking Tactics, is as follows ...

"... the progressive activity of locating, meeting and interacting with those who we can help who, in turn, will help us grow our business in a way that we meet both our personal and financial goals, in a timely manner, and with the maximum of respect and adoration from those we work with, serve and assist."

Now, that’s more like it! Let’s break my definition down, so you see what I truly mean by my definition of "networking" ...

There are at least 15 important reasons why you need to learn to master the art of “networking” (stay tuned for more detail in part 2 of my series on networking that works) and the “networking tactics” .

That's a pretty long list of reasons WHY you need to network! Right? Besides just telling you to ... "have firm handshake, ... smile, ... say 'Hello', and ... have your 30 second elevator speech ready," ... that's not enough to know when it comes to really making the most out of every networking event you attend!

To me, that sounds more like amateur advice that really doesn't produce the kind of networking results, business leads, joint-venture deals, money-making opportunities and other relationships your business needs to increase both your brand name recognition in the world at large and your income all at the same time!

When it comes to networking like a real pro, there's SO MUCH MORE you need to know about networking and why you need to learn how to make the most out of networking by using "my networking tactics!" For example, did you know there are 10 key components when it comes to networking successfully with others; no matter where you network?


The 10 Key Components When It Comes To Networking ...

When it comes to networking like a skilled professional, there are ten key components to learn, understand and master if you want to get the most out of networking with others.

This is a brief explanation of those 10 components, but this will be explored in more depth in one of my coming articles in this series on networking success.

TARGET MARKET: WHO do you need to reach.
LOCATION: WHERE will you find these people with whom to network?
GOALS: What are your GOALS per networking event?
TOOLS: How will you ORGANIZE your networking activities and the results?
RESOURCES: Have resources of your own to SHARE with others on how to make money, make alliances / acquaintances and lots more!
PREPARATION: Research, rehearse and practice everything with regard to networking.
PRESENCE: How you LOOK, walk, stand, talk, hold your hands, position yourself, etc,
CONVERSATION: What you SAY to other people in conversation or in your “pitch.”
ACTIONS: What you DO BEFORE, DURING and AFTER the networking event affects the results you get after a networking event.
FUTURE GROWTH: After the networking event is over, how will you NURTURE, stay in touch and further grow your network?
